Israeli President Shimon Peres said on a visit to Technion today that the most urgent thing on the national agenda is peace with the Palestinians . ” This will be the biggest revolution since the state was created,” he said. “I prefer an imperfect peace over the lack of perfect peace,” he said in a panel discussion with three Nobel Laureates from Technion, led by Dr. Yossi Vardi .

The President’s visit opened with the presentation formula car built at the Technion. The car, which was built by a group of students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering under the sponsorship of the Grand Technion Energy Program of Professor came 19th out of 57 Formula car student competition – and first place among first time participants. Student engineers presented the car to the President explained that this is a mixed team of Jews and Arabs. ” So that’s basically a car for two peoples, ” the president replied with a smile.

The President reviewed a selection of ground-breaking Technion innovations, including unmanned vessels; an array of nano satellites; a new method for treating tumors; advanced membranes for water treatment; and prediction using artificial intelligence .

The President, himself a Nobel Laureate, joined a panel of Technion Nobel Laureates in Chemistry: Professors Avram Hershko, Aaron Ciechanover and Dan Shechtman.

” I am proud of the Technion,” he said. “Science is our existential need. Our future lies in innovation , but if you do not find the way to control fanatics or cause them to control themselves,  the world could become a dangerous place. Israel should build relationships with large companies around the world, not just with the US.  We are a small land area and we have no choice but to have a great vision.”
