Yoelle Maarek to speak at the Yahoo! Big Thinkers India series

Yoelle will also be speaking at the Yahoo! Big Thinkers India series in Pune on April 8.
Yahoo! India R&D will be holding the next edition of its widely acclaimed quarterly ‘Big Thinkers’ series in Bangalore with Yoelle Maarek, Senior Director at Yahoo! Research, Israel who will deliver a lecture on ‘Web Retrieval: The Surprising Role of Users’. This free lecture will be held on Wednesday, April 6 from 3-5 pm at Leela Palace, Bangalore.
Yoelle Maarek’s lecture will focus on the explicit and implicit roles of users in the major Web search engines with a review of the key aspects of search engine users’ interaction on the web. It will also throw light on the utilization of user data to derive value, relevant results and improve user experiences.
Based in Israel, Yoelle is a Senior Director at Yahoo! Research. Prior to joining Yahoo!, she was the Director of Google’s Haifa Engineering Center. Before Google, she worked at IBM Research for 17 years where she led the Search and Collaboration department. Yoelle has a PhD in Computer Science from Technion, Israel Institute of Technology and her research interests include information retrieval, Web search and Web applications.
